Getting a Library Card
Signing up for a Library card is easy! Come into any of our branches with proof of identification and address and we’ll process your new membership right away.
Your library card is free if you:
- live, rent, work, own property or attend school in Ajax,
- have a permanent residence in Durham Region, or
- have a temporary residence in Ajax.
Otherwise, you can still get a Library card by paying a non-resident fee of $35.
Children aged 15 and under can get a Library card with a parent/guardian’s permission. The parent/guardian must register for the card on the child’s behalf.
Teens ages 16 and 17 can show proof of age and sign their own library card, but the parent/guardian is responsible for any activity on the card. Each member can only have one Library card.
Computer Use Membership
A Computer Use Membership gives you access to the Library's public Internet workstations. It will not allow you to borrow from or place holds on the Library's collections. Customers applying for a Computer Use membership will be required to produce printed identification that show their name.
The length of time you are allowed to keep materials varies based on the type of item you borrow. Loan periods are anywhere from 2 days to 3 weeks.
If you do not return or renew items by their due date they are considered overdue, and you will be responsible for all fines and fees incurred. When fines and fees reach a certain amount, the account will be sent to a collection agency.
Account & Membership Questions
If you have a question related to anything about your library account (renewals, fines, borrowed items, etc.), send us your question and one of our Circulation staff members will respond within one business day.
