TD Summer Reading Club Short Story Contest - June 7 to Aug. 12

Celebrate CANADA This summer with the TD Summer Reading Club. Young writers are invited to submit stories based on the theme CANADA. Send us your stories or comics based on wild adventures, beginning with the words:SRC Short Story Contest

“Turns out, the craziest thing in Canadian history happened to me the summer of Canada 150...”

Print the Story Starter or the Comic Starter, or use your own paper to submit your story. Note: Electronic files for short stories are preferred. See requirements below.

The Categories

Stories: JK – Grade 3; Grades 4 – 6; Grades 7 – 8 
Comics: JK – Grade 8

The Rules

  • Short story entries are limited to 500 words.
  • Comic entries are limited to one page.
  • Short story entries must begin with, “Turns out, the craziest thing in Canadian history happened to me the summer of Canada 150...”
  • Short stories may be submitted as .docx or .pdf files, or on 8 1/2" x 11" printer paper.
  • Illustrations may accompany short stories.
  • To enter, you must be a resident of Ajax.
  • For purposes of the contest, report your grade as of June 2017.
  • The contest deadline is Saturday, August 12, 2016.
  • Entries must be dropped off at any Ajax Public Library branch or emailed to libraryinfo@ajaxlibrary.ca by the contest deadline.

The Winners

  • Winning entries will be chosen from three categories: JK to Grade 3, Grades 4 to 6, and Grades 7 & 8. A Best of Contest from these categories will also be awarded and published in the Ajax News Advertiser!
  • The winning comic will be chosen by a People’s Choice vote during the award ceremony. 
  • All winning entries will be published in a book that will be added to the Library’s collection. Each winner will receive their own copy!
