LGBTQ+ Positive Space Launch

Pride Flag Colours

We are proud to become designated as a Positive Space. This means the Library has met standards that identify our branches as spaces where human rights are respected and where lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, two-spirited and queer people as well as asexual, allies and their friends and families, are welcome and supported.

One of the our strategic priorities is to ensure customers will have a safe and welcoming space to meet and interact with others or to read or work quietly. This designation helps us to reach that goal.

We invite you to celebrate this designation with us.

Date: Monday, April 11

Time: 4 to 5 p.m. – presentations to start at approximately 4:15

Location: Main Branch, Rotary Room

See the unveiling of our Positive Space logo and hear more about what it means to be a positive space, and why it’s important, from keynote speaker, Dr. Barbara Perry, Education Director of PFLAG Durham. Other speakers include Mayor Steve Parish and Cindy Poon, the Library’s Manager of Public Services.

Before and after the event, classic rock band GWood will entertain. The band is based in Durham Region, and has generously donated their time to perform for this event. For more information about GWood, visit www.gwoodband.com
