Young writers of Ajax are invited to submit their works based on the TD Summer Reading Club theme: Dive In!
Entries will be accepted from June 2 to August 1.
We are thrilled to have Ted Staunton, award-winning author, speaker, and performer, back again as our special guest judge. Ted has written books for all ages, several of which you can find at the Library.
Writing Prompt:
Write a 500-word story or one-page comic and share it with us for your chance to win!
Begin your story with: I took a deep breath and prepared to dive...
Categories Include:
JK-Grade 3
Grades 4-6
Grades 7-8
One-page comic (JK-Grade 8)
Winners will be chosen from each category, plus a People's Choice Award.
Winning entries will be announced at a reception at our Audley Branch on August 20 at 6:30 p.m.
Complete Contest Rules:
- Short story entries are limited to 500 words.
- Comic entries are limited to one page.
- Short story entries must begin with, "I took a deep breath and prepared to dive..."
- To enter, you must be a resident of Ajax.
- For purposes of the contest, report your grade as of June 2026.
- The contest deadline is Saturday, August 1.
- Entries must be emailed to libraryinfo@ajaxlibrary.ca as .docx or .pdf files, or dropped off at your local Library Branch by the contest deadline.
- Email address and phone number, as well as author name and grade, must be included with all submissions.
- Winning short story entries will be chosen from four categories: JK to SK, Grades 1 to 3, Grades 4 to 6, and Grades 7 & 8.
- One winning comic entry will be chosen from JK to Grade 8 submissions.
- All submissions become the property of Ajax Public Library.
